Autism advocate to visit Camden County Sheriff’s Office

On Thursday, autism advocate Alex Mann will visit the Camden County Sheriff’s Office to raise awareness and educate officers about autism. Since 2018, Mann has traveled to more than 500 police and sheriff departments in the Southeastern Pennsylvania and South Jersey regions.

“Alex is a remarkable individual who is working hard to educate officers about how we can better serve our residents who have autism,” Sheriff Chuck Billingham said. “We are thrilled to welcome Alex to the Camden County Sheriff’s Office and cannot wait to see what we can learn from him.”

Last month, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and the Board of Commissioners launched the Blue Envelope Initiative, a new traffic safety initiative that will create a blue informational document to alert law enforcement if an individual has special needs during a traffic stop. The Blue Envelope Program was created to facilitate safer and more helpful communication between police officers and individuals with autism spectrum disorder during traffic stops, providing those drivers with a blue envelope containing essential information and instructions for law enforcement during a traffic stop.
